Cans for Habitat

Greater Springfield Habitat for Humanity (GSHFH) is again taking part in the Novelis Affiliate Recycling Program, but this time, there’s a catch. GSHFH needs to collect a minimum of 500 pounds (16,000 cans) to qualify! But, if 1,000 pounds are collected, a bonus grant will be given, totaling $4,000! Help us achieve that goal!

ABOUT CANS FOR HABITAT.

The Novelis Affiliate Recycling Program began in May 2021 when Habitat for Humanity International and Novelis teamed up and introduced their collaboration. Habitat affiliates were invited to participate. To date, GSHFH has earned roughly $6,000 and kept many cans out of the landfill.

Aluminum donations can go a long way to help build a home. The cost of a 2x4 beam is the equivalent of 400 cans. A mailbox is 3,000 cans. A window is 11,000 cans. A front door is 22,000 cans, and a 1,200-square-foot roof is 400,000 cans.

In addition to bringing in large plastic bags of aluminum cans, the public can further help by allowing a collection bin in their places of business and donating the contents to GSHFH. Since 2021, several businesses have done so, including All States Transport (AST), SR Commercial Realty, Reminder Publications, Lock and Key Realty; Shatz, Schwartz, and Fentin; PSRB, Dalton & Finegold, Wilbraham Monson Academy, and Romeo Athletics in Enfield, Connecticut, among others.
